TECxm - Technology Entrepreneurs Creative Arts Mix Mini 2024

TECxm, a condensed “mini” version of the binannual TECx, celebrates the dynamic fusion of technology and the arts. This year TECxm 2024 takes a look at two global trends: democratization of early stage investments and the re-emergence of software outsourcing. Both of these trends have deep and meaningful impact on the entire tech and entrepreneurship landscape, driven by AI and automation.

Our keynote spotlights Republic, one of the top equity crowdfunding platforms, co-founded by Kendrick Nguyen. Republic is backed by Morgan Stanley, Valor Equity Partners, Galaxy Interactive, Hashed, AngelList and other leading institutions. It has enabled hundreds of tech startups to raise funds with its community of 3 million members from over 150 countries. More than $2.6 billion has been deployed through investment platforms, funds, and firms within the Republic family of companies.

Flying in from Vietnam, An Mai will give us a thoughtful overview of Vietnam’s growing tech prowess, from its humble beginnings in low-end software outsourcing to developing some of the most powerful iterations of AI across leading industries. Vietnam is beginning to flex its strength for tech talent and innovation. Mr. Mai is the founder and CEO of IMT, a top 5 software outsourcing Vietnam company with over 500 software developers in Vietnam, Japan and Singapore. He is a global expert on software outsourcing with clients like Oracle, Alcatel-Lucent, Juniper Networks, Lucent Technologies, Nortel, and NTT. In the same session, Quyen Nguyen, the CEO of Vietnam based Sharework and Director of Women in Tech Vietnam chapter, will talk about women’s increasing contributions in Vietnam’s tech industry and the many opportunities afforded by a growing global oriented digital economy.

Also, making a trip to the US from Vietnam is the distinguished Dr. Mason Cobb. He is a pioneer in building healthcare systems in Vietnam. He co-founded a well-known family care clinic with four locations in Saigon. He will talk about Medtech and how it has transformed medical care in Vietnam, how the industry is undergoing massive changes with many foreign acquisitions of local health facilities. Interestingly, Dr. Cobb will share his new adventure in longevity and healthcare for the “silver economy”, where Medtech is not only vastly improving health, but living a longer healthier life.

Juxtapose to technology replacing certain occupations is technology enhancing others. Our distinguished creative arts speakers in film, music and fashion showcase how certain skills in the film, music and fashion industries remain in the exclusive domain of human ingenuity. Award-winning filmmaker Carol Liu will interview Matt Dearborn who will share his insights on pitching scripts. Mr. Dearborn is an American television producer, writer and director. For creating Even Stevens, Mr. Dearborn received three consecutive Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Children’s series. In 2001, Even Stevens won the BAFTA Award for Outstanding International Children’s series. Ross Wells is an Emmy-winning film director producing national advertising, music videos, documentary films and digital content. At age 9, he made his first film after finding his dad’s hand-wound movie camera. He will guide the audience on how to make a low budget short film.

TECxm will close with the esteemed Ms. Chloe Dao flying in from Texas, interviewed by Ms. Van Do. Ms. Dao is an award winning fashion designer, She catapulted to international fame after winning Project Runway Season 2 in 2006. She was invited to be an executive producer and Judge of Project Runway Vietnam Season 1 in 2013. Her designs were featured at the Smithsonian Museum, in the ‘Exit Saigon, Enter Little Saigon’ exhibit. Ms. Do is an interdisciplinary scholar and writer who aspires to serve as cultural cultivator.
